The LABAN/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies
The LABAN/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies is one of the top institutions in the world for Movement Studies in all walks of life. LIMS' approach to exploring, studying and teaching movement as a fundamental human experience is based on the work of Rudolf Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff. The Institution preserves, develops and disseminates Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentalssm to professionals in diverse fields, including: Communication, Anthropology, Performing Arts, Cultural Studies, Business, and Sports, and offers Consulting Services to individuals, foundations and corporations.

The Institute is a non-profit organization, founded in 1978, which integrates an Arts & Culture Program, a Research Center, and a School, which qualifies professionals to become Certified Movement Analysts – CMA. These highly skilled professionals apply the Laban work in a diverse and ever-changing world, making a difference in the way people perform, communicate, observe, learn, and negotiate.

The LABAN Institute Arts & Culture Programs offer opportunities for artists who are inspired by Laban & Bartenieff theories to create and present creative projects, to discuss new findings with others who learned to look at movement carefully and creatively, and receive the kind of mentorships that drastically improves a performance work. Arts & Culture Permanent Programs include: MOSAIC, an Annual Fall performance event curated by Regina Miranda since 2003, which presents Laban and Bartenieff inspired dances and Performance Art; the Performance Atelier, acareer development project that offers mentorship and performance opportunities for CMA choreographers; Spring Forward, a biannual event dedicated to the art of movement within cultural contexts, which seeks to foster collaborations between CMAs and other artists, scientists, and institutions; and the publication of the Online Magazine Movement News.
