International Program

apexart International Program provides an open forum in which curators, artists and critics can present their ideas to the New York art audience. Recently, notions of internationalism have become theoretically articulated in multicultural discourse. In most of the western world today the coexistence of different cultures in the same geographical area is part of everyday life; in New York City, this situation is particularly pronounced. For this reason, the question of cultural translation has become one of the most urgent problems today. The purpose of the International Program is to reflect on these topics through a series of exhibitions – two per year – and related activities that take international issues as their points of departure.

The International Program takes place within the regular schedule of apexart. Two curators of international reputation will be invited each season to put together an exhibition that contemplates the notion of internationalism; the dynamics of the Program will thus involve its permanent questioning. In conjunction with the show, the curator selected may develop – in collaboration with apexart – a series of activities that might include guided tours to the exhibition, panel discussions or other related special events such as performances and film screenings. The Program will be specially focused on the work of curators whose interests are related to its goals and who have not previously shown their work in New York.
