Uthit Atimana

Uthit Atimana is the director of Chiangmai University Art Museum, in Chiangmai, Thailand. He was trained as a sculptor from Silapakorn Universtity, Bangkok. Uthit has been actively involed in an alternative art and cultural production from the northern region by co - founding the public art project, "Chiangmai Social Installation" since the early 1990s. His vision on adminstrating an art museum is to reposition a traditional art museum in the center of the community, by working with both tradtional art and contemporary art, and incorporating such activities into life's everyday settings. Recent projects produced by the museum under his direction include Eukabeuk, EukabuekTV with Superchannel, Superflex (2002), MayDay by Karl Holmqvist (2002), Story of the I, curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong (2002), Simply Simple, German Design with the IFA, Germany to name a few. In spring 2003, The New Media Art Exhibition at CMU Art Museum Hall 'B'' was launched, one of three self-contained sections of the New Media Art Festival on the CMU Campus. Selected works were presented in the fields of video art, interactive and computer installations. [Pictured below.]
