Mercedes Elgarte studied Art History and Museum Management, and currently works in the Department of Culture of Argentina. As the Coordinator of Museological Planning, she develops initiatives to strengthen the museum sector with the aim of transforming object-centered institutions into community-engaged ones. She is interested in the power of museums to enable a collective construction of meaning, collaboration, and citizen participation. Mercedes has also worked at Malba - Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires as a curatorial assistant and an exhibition production assistant, and she has also worked at the Department of Education in the Centro Cultural Kirchner. In addition to her current role in the Department of Culture, Mercedes is an assistant professor of Graphic Design at University of Buenos Aires, teaching History of Visual Communication.
