Loa Bascuñan was born in Madrid, Spain in 1979, and grew up in Chile where she currently lives and works. After studying photography in school, Bascuñan began writing and working with and for artists, dedicating her time to cultural affairs management. She has worked with “Caja Negra” (Black Box), a collective of Chilean artists that has been operating for more than 25 years, and Chile’s National Fine Arts Museum as project coordinator there for Museo Sin Muros (Museum Without Walls). She is currently working with Lastarria 90, a cultural center in Chile, to create new funding opportunities for young visual artists. In this project, the artists are given the opportunity to showcase their art, which is financially sponsored by the center. Through this program, new talented emerging artists will have the chance to enter the Chilean art circuit.
