Zina Swanson (b. 1981) received her BFA in Sculpture at the University of Canterbury. Swanson's work investigates the relationship between humans and the natural world, with a particular interest in notions of anthropomorphism. Her sculptural pieces utilize fragile materials to instill a sense of trepidation in the viewer often forcing them to negotiate space precariously. In addition to the sculptural work Swanson is also known for her works on paper. The watercolour imagery suggests both imagined fragile ecologies and human-plant permutations. In 2013 Swanson was the Frances Hodgkins Fellow.
